Silk began to spread when a trade route was established between East and West. It was named Silk Road because silk was the most valuable product reaching Europe from China. It was a symbol of luxury. In China its use was regulated. It was the imperial family and high-ranking people exclusivity for a millenium. In Europe too it was a sign of wealth and power.
This sensual protein fiber was the privilege of kings and queens, of aristocracy and wealthy ladies to show off in their portraits. Talented artists were able to reproduce on their canvas the iridescence of the silk and all its shades in sumptuous dresses and coats. The colors were vibrant and daring.
In our wallcovering the 100% silk fabric is laminated on a silver foil to give it a special sheen. The colors, often inspired by old paintings keep this sense of luxury silk always give, with subtle but still daring shades. Silk is fire retardant and suitable for hospitality.
